WEB SITE DESIGN - 2000: NEW ARTISTS IN CHICAGO

The Web Site for the New Artists in Chicago project will be designed by graduate students working on the initiative. I imagine this as a way to bring more artists into the project by inviting participation (for credit) by students in departments such as graphic design or visual communications. The invitation to participate will be extended to graduate students in the appropriate departments at several schools: SAIC, UIC, the Institute of Design, etc...

HOME PAGE

The New Artists home page will (re)introduce the project and create a presence on the web for the initiative. One that will, hopefully, continue to exist after this exhibition in the spring of 2000. A brief (no longer than 4/5 sentence paragraph) description of the project will appear on the home page. Links will be developed from the home page to provide further information about the project in the following categories:

• Mission
• Entry forms & applicant information
• Jurors
• Project staff & contact information
• Schedule of events & locations
• Links/Resources
• 1998: New Artists in Chicago

The buttons to navigate through these sections will appear to the left of each screen throughout the site.

MISSION

Mission & vision statement for the project.

ENTRY FORMS & APPLICANT INFORMATION

All relevant information regarding the application procedures and entry forms will be available for downloading from this page. Deadlines will be highlighted. All of this information will also be available in written form at other locations around Chicago.

JURORS

Brief biographical information about each of the jurors will be provided here with photos. Also included here will be a brief statement from each juror about the importance of the project and their thoughts on the place of emerging art in Chicago.

PROJECT STAFF & CONTACT INFORMATION

Brief biographical information about the project co-ordinator and each staff member will be provided here along with all contact information for the project office.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS & LOCATIONS

This portion of the web site will be continually updated throughout the project as the exhibition and related events are developed and confirmed. Each event will be described with the date and times, contact information and directions to each venue. I would also like to see here a brief statement by facilitators of each event stating why they are involved in the project and what their commitment to emerging art in Chicago is.

LINKS/RESOURCES

The vision of the New Artists initiative is to establish a network of citywide collaboration among diverse arts and cultural agencies that will provide a variety of venues and programming that will both showcase the work of emerging art in Chicago and also develop stimulating environments in which new audiences for contemporary art can be developed and educated. Therefore it is necessary to provide links to the home pages of all collaborators such as The Department of Cultural Affairs and any of their related programming. This section will be developed as collaborations are confirmed.

1998: NEW ARTISTS IN CHICAGO

A summary of the first exhibition . I would like to highlight some of the artists involved in that initiative and see this as a way to continue their involvement.
