Rewiring the Arts Organization
March 3, 1999
GOALS and STRATEGIES:
Establish the Museum/School program as a permanent part of the school
curriculum and museum education, even as the program evolves to meet changing
needs
- Create a training program that involves the teachers, principals,
arts educators and administrators.
- Allow everyone to have input into the direction the program takes.
- Since, initially, few classes will be able to participate, we will
involve only those teachers/school fully committed to taking on the
work of running this type of program (this is not the type of program
you can force participation and expect to be successful.)
Develop the Museum/School program into an experience, which last longer
than the duration of the program, creating a lifelong relationship between
the student and the art organization.
- Make the Museum/School program a personal experience, in which the
students feel like they belong in the institution and have opportunities
to establish personal relationships with staff.
- Create opportunities for involvement after the program is over,
through volunteer positions or membership.
Increase the level of institutional collaboration between us and our
neighboring arts organizations, through the Museum/School program.
- Make the creation of the program both an intra and an inter institutional
effort.
- Establish the fundraising for the program as a collaborative effort.
Create a level of community involvement in the Museum/School program
- Create an awareness among the students that their parents, relatives,
and community members are valuable resources not only for their projects
but in life.
- Make community member a part of the final project presentations
either as audience members or as participants.
