Joe's Syllabus:

The purpose of the technology portion of this course is to assist students in the management and design of technology implementation for arts organizations. The technology portion requires:

  1. Technology planning criteria: each student is to develop a one page document listing his/her own criteria for a quality technology plan for an organization, and present their criteria to the class
  2. Site visit report - students are required to make a single visit to an arts organization, and assess their implementation and use of technology, type up a one page report on their observations, and present their report to the class by the fifth technology session
  3. Review of a technical resource or option. Each student is to identify and bring to class an example of a technical option for an organization. Each student will write a one page summary of how the technical option might be deployed, and what its positive and negative implications might be
  4. Strategic plan: each student is to generate a one page planning document of key goals and strategies for a technology plan
  5. Website plan: each student is to create the outline for a website for an arts organization, identifying key aspects of how that ties into the organization's mission
  6. Evaluation plan: each student is to create and present an implementation and evaluation plan for technology within an organization

No more than one unexcused absence will be acceptable for completing the course. Active participation in class discussion is required. Most reading materials and resources will be available at http://www.sunwheel.org/SAIC.

February 17th: 2nd technology session: ANALYZING YOUR ORGANIZATION'S FUNCTIONS: present
your criteria, report back site visit date and location, discuss the multiple roles of technology inside of organizations
homework: review links to technology resources, choose one from this list or elsewhere, write summary, site visits

February 24th: 3rd technology session: TECHNOLOGICAL RESOURCE IDENTIFICATION: present technology resources, site visit presentations
homework: review online fundraising links, strategic resources, write strategic plan, site visits

March 10th: 4th technology session: TECHNOLOGICAL STRATEGIC PLANNING: presentation and discussion on partnership models, issues of post-modernism and technology, site visit presentations
homework: review communication links and options for audience and interagency communication (website), handouts

March 31st: 5th technology session: DEALING WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS AND AUDIENCE: COMMUNICATION MODELS present site visit reports and reviews of educational print documents.
homework: prepare outline of website

April 7th: 6th Technology session: REPRESENTING YOUR ORGANIZATION ON THE WEB: present web design outlines
home work: work through budgeting and implementation process. Design and write evaluation plans

April 14th: 7th Technology session: EVALUATING YOUR ORGANIZATION: present evaluation plans
